In a 4-1 vote, the Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners approved their $71 million budget during Monday鈥檚 meeting.
In their previous meeting, they approved a 400% increase on the city鈥檚 property taxes.
That proposal has generated outrage to many residents.
City commissioners origin无毛视频y planned to increase the property tax rate to 44 cents per $100 of assessed value.
But during Monday鈥檚 meeting, they decided on a much sm无毛视频er property tax rate of 29 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The city鈥檚 revised rate will generate over $6.1 million in revenue.
Mt. Juliet Mayor James Maness said the city was able to keep its property tax low by cutting 50 to 60 other items in the budget.
They approved over $3.1 million in cuts, alongside $103,000 in pay adjustments for employees.
Maness said the city has a tighter budget due to Mt. Juliet鈥檚 slow growth.
However, they did not lay off any of their city employees.
Mt. Juliet鈥檚 yearly budget origin无毛视频y was going to end contracts for many of the city鈥檚 employees including the Deputy Parks Director and the city鈥檚 Public Information Officer.
鈥淚n total, between our last budget and our current one, 13 job positions were eliminated, but no one lost their job in the process,鈥 said Maness.
The city also included new positions for a City Attorney and a Parks Budget into their current budget.
Mt. Juliet鈥檚 Public Safety department has the largest budget with $35.5 million, followed by the city鈥檚 government with $29.6 million. The city鈥檚 Public Works department comes in at $4.3 million and Mt. Juliet鈥檚 Parks and Recreation department is $2.3 million.
Maness attributes public safety to the city鈥檚 growing investment with the Mt. Juliet Police Department and the Mt. Juliet Fire Department.
City officials said they are expecting MJPD to move to their new headquarters late this summer.
Mt. Juliet鈥檚 new police headquarters will be next to their current headquarters to Charlie Daniels Park.
They also approved over $47.8 million in road and infrastructure projects.
City officials said these projects are a significant investment in Mt. Juliet鈥檚 long-term growth.
In other business, the city commission also approved a resolution to 无毛视频ow voters to decide through an August 2026 public referendum on a $14 million bond for the city鈥檚 first aquatic and recreational center.
However, Lesley Penny, the manager of the Providence Pool Club, and other residents have many concerns over the new facility.
In an earlier city commission meeting, she described it as a 鈥減ie in the sky鈥 dream.
District 4 Commissioners Jennifer Milele said the new facility does not have a chance to be built.
鈥淲hat we are witnessing is Mt. Juliet politics,鈥 said Milele.
