SOUTH CARTHAGE — Team Njezic advanced to the championship round with an 11-5 win over Smith County on Tuesday at Crump Paris Park, qualifying Lebanon for the 8U state tournament which will begin July 5 at Baird Park.
Annabelle Appelhans led Lebanon with three singles, the first of which drove in two runs in the first inning before finishing the game with four RBIs. Taylor Hunter also had three hits while Madeline Carbonell collected two.
Smith County flipped the script with five runs on six hits to go up 5-3 in the bottom of the first.
But Team Njezic came back to tie the score 5-5 in the third on a groundout by Carbonell. The Lady Devils took the lead 9-5 in the fifth on singles by Hunter, Appelhans and Carbonell.
